Joana Vasconcelos creates a gigantic valkyrie
For Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos imagines “Branco Luz”: a monumental valkyrie named Simone, 30.5 metres long, which wraps around the escalators and extends into the store’s atrium and windows. Her name pays tribute to the commitment of two figures who left their mark on history through their fight: Simone de Beauvoir and Simone Weil.
