THEBE MAGUGU’S LUCKY CHARMS
Freelance director based in the Paris region, I mainly make films rooted in reality. Alone, camera in hand, or with a team of professionals by my side, I adapt to your needs to see all your audiovisual communication projects through and serve your overall strategy.
Original works

Le Chant des Doléances
Inspired by citizens’ grievance books (the “cahiers de doléances”), with their anger, hopes and aspirations, this song sets to music the words gathered in the field in Seine-Saint-Denis. Composed by Hadrien de Blignières with the participation of Fiona Lévy, it was recorded during a seminar at Villarceaux, with the support of the association Les Cahiers pour Décider et Agir and the Fondation Charles Léopold Mayer pour le progrès de l’Homme.

Tant qu'il y aura le monde
In late 2025, I wanted to pay tribute to the firefighters of Val d’Oise through a fiction inspired by real life, built from footage shot over the months in the field. A gesture to highlight the beauty of the commitment of these women and men who risk their lives every day to rescue the public. Made for the Nikon Film Festival.

The Lost Worlds
A personal project built around archive footage, “The Lost Worlds” is a series of clips created for a dedicated TikTok channel, which also gave rise to the documentary “Hiroshima, the next days”.

Sous les Spotlights des Nørdiques
For Blønd and Blönd and Blónd, a French-Swedish trio reinventing French chanson with absurd, offbeat humour, I co-created and edited “Sous les Spotlights des Nørdiques” (Under the Nørdiques’ Spotlights), directed by Iván González: the pilot of a completely crazy show, featuring singer Oldelaf.

Thirty Seconds To Mars - Stuck - Behind The Scene
To shoot the music video for “Stuck”, the first single from the album “It’s the End of the World But It’s a Beautiful Day”, Thirty Seconds to Mars set up their cameras in Paris. Jared Leto describes it as a true love letter to the city and to the photographers who influenced him.

Madame Arthur
From the very start of the first lockdown, I worked for two years alongside the Madame Arthur cabaret, with Jacques Safarian, devising a whole variety of video formats to keep the venue alive despite its closure: music videos, recordings, short formats, all ways of keeping the audience connected to the cabaret’s world until its doors reopened.

Farming our future
In Lesotho, with the support of The Ivory Foundation, this documentary follows the journey of young deaf and hard-of-hearing people trained at the Saint Paul school in Hlotse. Since 2015, the Farming Our Future programme has taught them market gardening, livestock farming, permaculture and agroforestry, alongside craft skills such as carpentry and metalwork. Now independent, former students have founded their own association, entirely run by deaf and hard-of-hearing people, and today farm several hectares at Levi’s Nek, where they live and work in full autonomy.

Le Pays Aux Pieds d'Argile
By NICOLAS PLOUMPIDIS
On the Atlantic coast, in the salt marshes of Guérande, a unique relationship between humans and nature has shaped for 1,500 years an artificial landscape of earth, clay and sea. Now threatened by rising waters, the salt workers (paludiers), heirs to this ancestral practice, tell in their own words what is at stake for this fragile territory.

Organe Anonyme
For this latest entry in the 48 Hour Film Project Paris, we wrote, shot and edited this comedy in 48 hours. Co-directed with Cécile Mille and Alexandre Ribeaud, the story is set in a group therapy session where the actors play organs of the human body, telling the slice of life of one of them, sometimes neglected: the clitoris. The film won the award for 2nd Best Film of the 2017 edition.

Black Hole
Music video made for From Island, a band from Corsica, shot on one of the island’s beaches. Principal dancer Josua Hoffalt performs a choreography that blends into the Corsican landscape, between sea and light.

Consultations
By David Rinaldi
I supported David Rinaldi in producing the pilot of his series, a completely offbeat dive into the medical world. In this clinic where nothing runs right, a string of doctors as wacky as their patients follow one another through consulting-room sketches: a short, biting format where each scene competes in absurdity to push the diagnosis one notch further.

Grand Blanc
A longing for the mountains, a wish to shoot in my favourite ski resort: “Grand Blanc” (Great White) was born from that hunch, a self-produced short film written with Alexandre Ribeaud about three friends gathered in Tignes, one of whom has forgotten everything since an accident. The shoot felt like a holiday camp, right up to the last scene filmed at dawn, at the summit, above the clouds, one of the most striking memories of the adventure.

Kayak
Another entry in the 48 Hour Film Project, this time with the crime thriller drawn as the mandatory genre. With David Rinaldi, we turned the genre on its head: here, the murderer files a complaint with the police… because his victim ran away. A black comedy that twists the conventions of the crime thriller to the point of absurdity.

Club
Inspired by David Fincher’s “Fight Club”, with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, this short film let me explore comedy, choreographed fighting and a final twist, alongside a great bunch of actors. A very formative collective adventure, made possible by the support of several partners including Fiap Paris. Winner of the Sony/Le Repaire Challenge, the film was shot with equipment lent by Sony France.

Yesterday
Made as part of the 48 Hour Film Project in Paris, “Yesterday” tells the story of the creation of the Beatles in an offbeat way, with its members lost after a trip through time.

Contre La Montre
“Contre La Montre” (Against the Clock) took part in the Mobile Film Festival. Shot entirely on a smartphone and running one minute, it followed an employee’s race across Paris to post an important letter before midnight. Selected among the 50 finalists, this little film was a chance to try out, among other things, a tracking shot from the boot of a car in the middle of the night in Paris.

Hiroshima, the next days
Experimental film made from archive footage. Screened at the Uppsala Film Festival in the Panorama section.

Le Reflet
“Le Reflet” (The Reflection) is my first short film as a director. Produced for the Nikon Film Festival, whose theme was “I’m a Fan”, it featured a deeply ambiguous character, a fan… of herself, obsessed with her own image.

Le Choix
By Viktor Miletic
“Le Choix” (The Choice) is my very first short film production. Presented at the Nikon Film Festival, it was among the finalists of that year’s edition.
