Thebe Magugu exhibits 20,000 Lucky Charms
For the “Porte-Bonheurs” (Lucky Charms) exhibition, South African designer Thebe Magugu imagines 20,000 fabric flowers hung beneath the glass roof of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, designed as brooches pinned to vines. In the windows on rue de Sèvres, the words “joy”, “happiness”, “love” and “hope” come to life. Sewn and embroidered by around a hundred women in vulnerable situations in workshops supported by the Dessine l’Espoir association in South Africa and Eswatini, the flowers are also sold in support of the association.
